Een voorbeeld van een vraag met daarop een short answer.

De Engelsen zijn graag heel beleefd en daarom antwoorden zij niet met alleen maar 'Yes' of 'No'. 
Ze maken er altijd een klein zinnetje van.

Hoe maak je een short answer?
Je herhaalt het EERSTE werkwoord uit de vraag. 
In bevestigende zinnen kun je dit woord gewoon overnemen.

Voorbeelden:
Do you know her? Yes, I do.
Can she help you? Yes, she can
Is she famous? Yes, she is

In ontkennende short answers zet je nog 'not' achter het werkwoord of de verkorte vorm n't
Voorbeelden:
Do you like coriander? No, I don't.
Are they a couple? No, they aren't.
Can he speak Chinese? No, he can't.

Maar let op:              page 
Als het onderwerp in de zin 'you' is dan gebruik je in de short answer 'I' of 'we'. Dit is omdat het een vraag is aan jou of jullie. 
Voorbeeld:

Can we help you? No, you can'
Do you want to leave? Yes, we do.
