Question tags

Neem deze zinnen over in je schrift:

• You like pizza, don't you?
• The Netherlands won the match, didn't they? 
• She can't come tonight, can she?

Wat valt op? 

• You like pizza, don't you?
  
• The Netherlands won the match, didn't they?
  
• Tessa can't come tonight, can she?

Question tags

Wanneer?

• Als je in het Engels vraagt om 'bevestiging'. 
• In het NL dan vaak:  hè, toch, nietwaar?

• Is het werkwoord vóór de komma bevestigend, dan wordt de tag ná de komma ontkennend: 
  You like (+) pizza, don't (-)you?
• Is het werkwoord voor de komma ontkennend, dan wordt de tag ná de komma bevestigend:
  Tessa can't (-) come tonight, can(+) she?

Hoe?

Let op!

• Vormen van het werkwoord 'to be' herhaal je in de tag:
   She isn't (-)angry, is(+) she?
• Dat geldt ook voor hulpwerkwoorden (can, could, will, would, should, have):
  You have(+) done your homework, haven't(-) you? 
• Bij alle andere werkwoorden gebruik je in de tag de juiste vorm van 'to do'.
  They need(+) some spare time, don't (-) they?
• Ook het onderwerp komt altijd in de tag terug. Je gebruikt daarvoor een persoonlijk voornaamwoord of 'there':
  The Netherlands won the match, didn't they?
• Tot slot: kijk altijd goed naar de tijd waarin het werkwoord staat.
