Present Simple

We use the simple present tense when an action is a habit or when it happens regularly

 

I always buy gum when I fly to the UK for New Years.

 Mr. Jackson travels during the summer. 

How to make it

Formula: root form only!

he/she/it? (Shit-rule) Add -s or -es (when there is an s sound)

I write - she writes

you pack - he packs

they press - she presses

we approach - he approaches

Present Continuous

The present continuous tense indicates that an action is happening now and will continue in the future or will happen in the near future.

We are visiting the local museum today.

Rose is reading a book in her hotel.

I am taking the train to my friend tomorrow. 

How to make it

Formula: to be [am, is, are] + root form + -ing

I am waiting - he is waiting - we are waiting

I am checking - she is checking - you are checking

etc. 

Exercise

Finish the sentence using the present simple or present continuous

Type the whole sentence between ´...´

‘She (see) Tim again tonight.’ It is their anniversary.

´The library (close) in five minutes´ (at 6pm every day) and I have four books to return before they fine me!

I'm going to be late! ´This train (arrive) in Chicago at 3 pm.’
