Life in a tiny house
The Morrison family live in the countryside of Oregon. Andrew and Gabriella have two teenage kids, 18-year-old Paiute and 14-year-old Terra. A few years ago, they decided to change their lifestyle and move to the countryside. They now live in an extremely small house with some extra sleeping cabins. Their son doesn't live at home anymore, but daughter Terra is living in the tiny house with her parents. People often wonder if it's hard for a family to live in such a small house. More and more people decide to live tiny. They are making their lives simpler in many ways. Let's take a look at some of the benefits of living this way.

Why did the Morrison family choose to live in a tiny house in the countryside?
Answer: They wanted to change their lifestyle, save money, and live in a way that is better for the environment.
Location in the text: "A few years ago, they decided to change their lifestyle and move to the countryside." "We found out that we were spending too much money, and our house had rooms that we didn't even need." "Besides the costs, we saw that the way we lived wasn't good for the environment."

1. Saving money
'When we found out what we paid to live in our ‘perfect’ big house, we were in a bit of a shock', said Andrew Morrison. 'We found out that we were spending too much money, and our house had rooms that we didn't even need.' Building a tiny home is of course a lot cheaper than building a traditional house. Going tiny also means spending less money on water and electricity.

2. Saving the planet
Andrew: 'Besides the costs, we saw that the way we lived wasn't good for the environment.
Houses that are smaller need less materials to build. And they don't use that much energy, which is better for the environment.'

3. More familytime
Living in a tiny house means having less stuff and spending less money. This means you don't have to work so hard anymore. Gabriella: 'We now realise that family time is more important than working to pay for a big house and cars. And besides that, we often spend time outdoors, which is good for our health.’

Answer: Terra is happy living in the tiny house, but she doesn't have a lot of privacy. She uses the guest cabins for private time.
Location in the text: "Yes, I am happy. Our tiny house is great, but we don't have a lot of privacy. We have to share all of the space in our house. However, we are also using the guest cabins. These rooms are private spaces for me and my brother if we want to get away."

Slide 21 - Question ouverte

What are two good things about living in a tiny house, according to the Morrisons?
Answer: Saving money and spending more time with family.

Does it really work?
We still wonder: Is it actually possible to raise a teenager in a tiny house? Is daughter Terra really happy there? Does she have enough room when friends visit? Terra: ' Yes, I am happy. Our tiny house is great, but we don't have a lot of privacy. We have to share all of the space in our house. However, we are also using the guest cabins. These rooms are private spaces
for me and my brother if we want to get away. We can use them to have
some time for ourselves, do school work, or to spend time with friends.'

The Morrisons have found their own ways to make tiny living possible for them and they are happy about it. They certainly think there are more positive than negative sides to living tiny.
