Wanneer je wilt zeggen dat iets niet zo is, gebruik je een ontkenning. Een ontkenning betekent dat iets NIET zo is. Daarom gebruik je het woordje 'not' om een ontkenning aan te geven. 

(want 'not' vertaald naar 'niet'!)

Wanneer er een hulpwerkwoord in de zin staat, dan zet je 'not' hier achter.

I could eat fast - I could not eat fast

Staat er geen hulpwerkwoord in de zin? Plak dan don't, doesn't, didn't voor het hoofdwerkwoord. LET OP! Je gebruikt dan het hele werkwoord.
