Question Tags

Tag questions worden gebruikt om om bevestiging te vragen. Het is een korte vraag aan het eind van de zin. 

Als de zin positief is, is de tag question negatief. Is de zin negatief, dan is de tag question positief.

Waarom gebruiken de Engelsen een Question Tag?

1. Daarmee stel je een vraag.
2. Om de vraag nogmaals kort te herhalen.
3. Om om bevestiging te vragen.

1. short trousers in questions

4. short questions at the end of a sentence.

Question tags:
Als de zin bevestigend (+) is, dan is de tag question....

1. ook bevestigend (+)
2. ontkennend (-)

Stappen voor het maken van een question tag

Stap 1:

1. Is de hoofdzin positief, dan is de tag negatief
2. Is de hoofdzin negatief, dan is de tag positief.

Vb 1: Your parents are friendly, aren't they?

Vb 2: Your little sister can't swim, can she?

We aren't late, ____________?

1. are we
2. aren't we

She's Italian, __________?

1. is she
2. isn't she

Stappen voor het maken van een question tag

Stap 2:

1. Staat er in de hoofdzin een hulpwerkwoord (to be, can, will, could, would, etc), dan zet je dat werkwoord in de tag.
2. Staat er geen hulpwerkwoord? Gebruik dan "to do" in de tag.

Vb 1: You are twelve years old, aren't you?

Vb 2: Your father works at a bank, doesn't he?

vorm 'to do',  hangt af van de tijd + onderwerp van de hoofdzin.

Opties:

• do/don't --> tegenwoordige tijd, I, we, you, they
• does/doesn't --> tegenwoordige tijd he, she, it
• did/didn't --> verleden tijd

They live in Amsterdam, ________?

Stappen voor het maken van een question tag

Stap 3:

Herhaal het onderwerp van de zin in de tag. In de tag moet het altijd een persoonlijk voornaamwoord zijn (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) of 'there'.
