Discussions
1. Opinions - being direct or polite 
Modal verbs - I would appreciate it if; I don’t think we should of You might want to think about the consequences.
2. Confirmation - Approval
Tag questions  - Netflix is not really expensive, is it? 
3. Expressions - I guess ..., ... don't you think?
Tip: pay attention to people's tone of voice and, if possible, their posture. You can understand a lot from that

Verb + ing
 a verb (ww) + ing = noun (zelfstandig naamwoord)
We call this: the gerund

shop (verb) + ing = shopping (noun)               = gerund
game (verb) + ing = gaming                                  = gerund
eat (verb) + ing = eating                                            = gerund

A Gerund is the whole verb + ing used as a noun. You use the gerund:
  1. As a subject

When?
  • As Subject
    Learning makes me smart.
  • After prepositions (voorzetsels)
    She has decided on staying here.
  • After expressing opinions (can’t stand, dislike, enjoy, fancy, feel like, hate, like, love, mind, prefer)
    I enjoy playing the guitar
  • After the words that show start/ begin/ continue/ stop (begin, carry on, continue, finish, give up, go on, keep (on), quit, start, stop)
    He carries on  drinking Fanta in the morning.

When?
  • After expressions : It's no use / It's (not) worth it / don't mind / to look forward to.
    It's no use washing the dishes now.
  • After these words : miss, avoid, consider, delay, deny, postpone,  risk, etc.).
    They should avoid eating too much fast food. 
  • Exception - After (start, begin, continue, like, love, hate and prefer) you can also use the entire verb with to.
    I started to count the day’s profit / I started counting the day’s profit.
