3M BS SPEAKING

In this Be Strong,

we practice speaking about fake news, 

we do speaking exercises

and

we play word games.

Rules

We speak English as much as we can. 

We ask for help when we need it. 

We let each other finish. 

We give each other time to think. 

We don't laugh at mistakes. 

We help each other get better!

Today,

we look at our own opinions about lying, 

we practise spotting lies, 

and we play Hangman.

Part 1: opinions about lying

Give your own opinion about each of the following statements. 

Each time, I will ask one person who agrees and one who disagrees to explain their choice.

People should never lie under any circumstances.

I agree.

I disagree.

It's acceptable to lie to small children.

I agree.

I disagree.

White lies

A white lie is a small lie to be polite or friendly to others. 

For instance, if someone asks your opinion about their horrible new haircut, you could tell a white lie and say you like it to protect their feelings.

White lies are acceptable.

I agree.

I disagree.

Advertising is the same as lying.

I agree.

I disagree.

If a lie is repeated often enough, people will believe it.

I agree.

I disagree.

Part 2

Two truths, one lie

Groups

Magister will make groups of 4.

Find your group mates and sit with them.

The rules

Write your names on a piece of paper.

Every group member will tell two truths and one lie. 

The other group members guess which is the lie. 

Each time you guessed correctly, you get a point. 

Round 1

Tell two truths and one lie, using the following phrases: 

I really like to eat ...

At school, I don't like ...

One of my hobbies is ...

* Take a minute to think about your answers first.

* Remember, one of them has to be a lie!

Round 2

Now do another round with these phrases: 

I once saw a ...

As a small child, I always ...

My best present ever was ...

Remember to write down the points you have earned!

Find the 5 words as quickly as you can. 

Work together as a group to solve the puzzles. 

The first group to find all five words gets candy!
