Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Where are the metal elements located in the periodic table?
A
Left-hand side
B
Right-hand side

Slide 5 - Quizvraag

Write down in your notebook:
metal elements (left-hand side of periodic table except H):
  • Shiny
  • Good conductors of heat and electricity
  • High melting points (strong metallic bond)
  • Ductile and malleable
  • Form alloys and ionic compounds.

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Which is not an element?
A
Alloy
B
Noble metal
C

D
Alkaline earth metal

Slide 7 - Quizvraag

Write down in your notebook:
  • Alkali metals (GR1): react violently with water.
Can’t be found pure in nature.
  • Noble metals:   unreactive metals (f.i. Au (s), Pt (s), Ag (s)).
  • Alloy:            Mixture of two or more metals
Made in order to improve the properties (f.i. hardness or color).

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Write down in your notebook:
non-metal elements (right-hand side of periodic table & H):
  • Poor conductors of heat and electricity
  • High melting points (strong metallic bond)
  • Brittle and dull.
  • Form ionic compounds (salts) and molecular compounds.

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Halogens (GR17): react easily, including with metals
Noble gases (GR18): unreactive colorless gases
