Articles

Articles = lidwoorden

Articles are placed before a noun,   In English we know two types of articles: THE (definite article) and A or AN (both indefinite articles)

Examples: 

The book is on this shelf is mine.

I’d rather eat  a pear than an apple.

When to not use an Article?

VERSCHILLEN  MET NEDERLANDS

Voor de naam van een beroep, nationaliteit of geloof gebruik je a/an: He is a teacher / a Dutchman. / Mary is a Catholic.

Bij instellingen als hospital, school, prison, college, university, church gebruik je geen 'the' als je denkt aan het gebruik van de gebouwen, en niet aan de gebouwen zelf:

We go to church. / Do you go to school? / He is in hospital.

Je gebruikt wel "the" als je echt het gebouw bedoelt:

We have been waiting at the hospital all morning.

When to not use an Article?

Languages	She speaks Spanish.
Mealtimes	See you at lunchtime .
Cities and countries	She lives in Amsterdam , The Netherlands.
Street names and places	I travelled by taxi from Heathrow airport to Oxford street.
Some signal words	I am working next week. Did you go on holiday last summer

When do we use imperatives?

Met de gebiedende wijs kan je aangeven wat iemand wel of niet moet doen.

• Bevel                               Come here!
• Waarschuwing             Watch out!
• Advies                               Drink plenty of water.
• Verzoek                             Don't smoke here.
• Instructie                          Go to page 20 in your book.

Rule

Hele werkwoord (zonder 'to') + de rest van de zin = imperative

Wel doen:

Eat your breakfast!

Werkwoord vooraan in de zin + de rest van de zin

Niet doen:

Don't play loud music.

Don't + hele werkwoord + rest van de zin

Write an imperative.

Write an imperative.
_______ late for school! (not / to be)

Rewrite this sentence using the imperative:
