Common mistakes!
sounds & words
  • Mispronouncing “th” sounds:
“this” → dis, “think” → tink
  • Flat intonation: Sounds monotonous, lacks emotions = like a robot
  • Stress errors: e.g. DEvelopment instead of deVEloPMent
  • Dutch fillers: “uhm… zeg maar… ja…”
  • English fillers: “like… like...er...you know ”
  • overusing very & really: ipv very nice, really interesting -> fantastic, engaging
  • populair, idea, serie

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Common mistakes 2.0
Dutch structures
  • "In this movie plays T.C. the main character" =>
  • "T.C. plays the main character in this movie"
  • "The story goes about..." => is!
  • "There comes a twist" => is!
  • shit-rule: "He play a detective"
  • wrong tense: "The story is about a boy who go to school..."
  • a/an/the: "He is main character" /
    "The Netflix is popular"

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Common mistakes 3.0
Structure
  • no intro, jumping between topics back and forth, no conclusion
  • too informal: "I liked it because it was cool" / "Super funny" => "I found the film engaging because..." / "What makes this tv show stand out is..."
  • "I liked it" = no explanation
  • too much text on slides / reading slides / mistakes on slides / hard to read
  • did not practise => presentation is too short!
better structure ideas
- tell us what you like/don't like about characters or why they are interesting
- always give a reason with your info!
- your plot summary should not be too long!
- don't include spoilers :)
- not using any images (and not telling us why you used an interesting image!)
