Future: to be going to

When to use: 

(1) Om aan te geven dat iemand iets in de toekomst van plan is. 

I am going to visit my grandparents tomorrow. 

(2) Een voorspelling waarvan je zeker weet dat het gaat gebeuren (je hebt bewijs).

Look at those grey clouds. It is going to rain.

Ontkenning: where in this sentence do we place 'not'?
I am going to do homework.

1. I not am going to do homework.
2. I am not going to do homework.
3. I am going to not do homework.
4. I am going to do homework not.

We _________ watch the game at my cousin's.

She ________ play hockey next Tuesday.

Next week I _______ visit my aunt Helen.

Future tense with 'will'

 will + ww

She will clean her room this afternoon.

Future: will

When to use: 

(1) Om iets aan the bieden, bij beloftes, aankondigingen.

The match will start in a few minutes. (aankondiging)

Yes mom, I will clean my room tonight. (belofte)

(2) Een voorspelling zonder dat je weet of het gaat gebeuren. (je hebt GEEN bewijs).

 I think they will win the match.

Ontkenningen en vraagzinnen

Bij ontkennende zinnen plaats je het woord "not" tussen "will" en het werkwoord.

They will not arrive on time. OF They won't arrive on time.

Bij vraagzinnen komt "will" vooraan in de zin. 

Let op! Bij I and we gebruik je "shall" in plaats van will.

Will they arrive on time?

Shall I call you tomorrow?

Ontkenning: where in this sentence do we place 'not'?
Ray will come to school tomorrow.

1. Ray not will come to school tomorrow.
2. Ray will come not to school tomorrow.
3. Ray will not come to school tomorrow.
4. Ray won't come to school tomorrow.

Sometimes to talk about the future we can also use Present Simple

When can we use Present Simple to talk about the future?

1. When we talk about scheduled events, such as departure/arrival times
2. When we have evidence that something will happen

Present Simple

- scheduled events, timetables

• The train to Amsterdam leaves at 7:30
• My favourite TV show starts in 10 minutes

Present Continuous

Sometimes to talk about the future we can also use Present Continuous

When can we use Present Continuous to talk about the future?

1. When we are not sure if something will happen
2. If we know something is going to happen because we've already arranged it
