I can use modals correctly.

Modals ?

Modals (also called modal verbs) are special verbs 

that behave irregularly in English. 

They are different from normal verbs like "work, play, visit..."

Modal verbs are used to express functions such as:

Permission - Ability -Obligation - Advice - Possibility

can - could - to be able to

can => possibility - ability - make requests

could => past tense of can + more polite

to be able to => only ability ! 

He can run really fast.

Must - Have to - Should

Must + have to  => obligation

Must : comes from the speaker 

Have to : comes from someone else

Should => advice , suggestion

I must not forget to buy shampoo
