At the end of the lesson:

• We know what an adjective is;
• We know how to recognize adverbs and adjectives in a sentence. 

Wat is een bijwoord?

Wat is een bijvoegelijk naamwoord?

Adverb:

In Dutch it means bijwoord.

Adverbs will give you some extra information about other words in a sentence.

Adverbs can be used in various ways:

• To modify (wijzigen/aanpassen) the whole sentence;

• To modify the ‘’verb’’ (werkwoord) ;

• To modify an adjective (bijvoegelijk naamwoord) ;

• To modify another adverb (bijwoord) ; 

Examples of adverbs could be:

o Seriously

o Madly

o Quickly

o Etc.

I will show you an example of an adverb in a sentence:

o She told him he could break his leg if he jumps of the big rock, he quickly changed his mind.

Adjective: 

In Dutch an adjective means bijvoegelijk voornaamwoord.

An adjective is 9/10 times placed in front of the noun (zelfstandig naamwoord) in a sentence.

To clarify, an adjective simply tells you something about a noun.

Examples of adjectives could be:

o Tall

o Small

o Ugly

o Etc.

I will show you an example of an adjective in a sentence:

o The tall lady was annoyed.

An adjective means in Dutch:

1. Bijwoord
2. Bijvoegelijk naamwoord
3. Lidwoord
4. Zelfstandig naamwoord
