Slide 2 - Tekstslide
grammar
you must be able to tell the difference between:
the present perfect : He has spent a lot of money on clothes.
the past simple: He spent his money on clothes yesterday.
excercises on page 20/21
Slide 3 - Tekstslide
grammar
Use the present perfectto talk about experiences or things that happened before now. The time is not specified or important: "Many actors have won Oscars for their roles."
Use the present perfectto talk about recent events, or an action which started in the past and continues now: "Hollywood has always used true stories in its films."
Use the past simple to talk about a specific event in the past (we know when the event happened): "Helen Mirren met the Queen for tea".
Use the past simple to talk about an action which started and finished at a specific time in the past: "He lost his job when he was 30 years old".
Slide 4 - Tekstslide
vocabulary
you must be able to describe different types of film stories (see page 20, excercise 2A)
headlines in the news (see page 24, excercise 6A)
and of course the words you wrote down in your own personal word glossary (the words that were new to you).
Slide 5 - Tekstslide
prepositions
prepositions = voorzetsels (kastwoorden)
at, in, on, for, by
page 22, excercise 10, 11, 12A)
on = specific days (Saturday, Monday morning, the 4th of July)
in = for time periods (July, 2010, winter, the morning)
at = for specific times (at 12 o'clock, the weekend, night, lunchtime)
Slide 6 - Tekstslide
most important difference between say / tell:
SAY = to express something using words
What did he say? (Wat heeft hij gezegd?)
TELL = to give information to a person
What did he tellyou? (Wat heeft hij jou verteld?)
Slide 7 - Tekstslide
some examples:
Where are they going? She didn't say.
Where are they going? She didn't tellme.
What did he say?
What did he tell you?
Slide 8 - Tekstslide
so...
When you use TELL, you must have a person following the verb. It could be a name, or just a pronoun, but there must be a person following:
He told me to do it.
Slide 9 - Tekstslide
text in the right order
You must be able to put the sentences in a story in the correct order.
That means you will need to read the story and recognise the "sequencers" (and then.. , in the end.. , this happened when.. etc.).
Slide 10 - Tekstslide
2.5 Lookback
Now you may start doing the excercises on page 30 in your Speakout book. These excercises prepare you well for the test.
For the test, you must bring your (charged) laptop (and bring charger!). Without your laptop you cannot perform the test!
