Adjectives = bijv nw

Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord gebruik je om iets of iemand 

te omschrijven. Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord wordt vaak gevolgd door een zelfstandig naamwoord.

Onthoud: geen -ly als er een ZN achter staat!

De vraag hier is: WAT?

That is an amazing girl.  (Wat voor meisje?)

I think he is a terrible football player.

Adverb = bijwoord

-Een bijwoord zegt iets over het werkwoord in de zin.

-Een bijwoord zegt iets over een bijvoegelijk naamwoord in de zin.

-Een bijwoord zegt iets over een ander bijwoord in de zin

-Een bijwoord zegt iets over de hele zin. (Altijd vooraan in de zin)

- Mary sings wonderfully.

- I am eating an amazingly delicious steak!

- My grandparents talk incredibly loudly.

- Honestly, I don't really care.

                         

                                                        

Hoe maak je een bijwoord?

Bijvoeglijk naamwoord + LY

IC - ALLY

(fantastic - fantastically)

Y - ILY

funny - funnily

Uitzonderingen:

good - well

fast - fast

hard - hard 

long - long

late - late 

(hardly = nauwelijks)

(lately = de laatste tijd

Uitzonderingen ww:

to be, to look, to appear, to seem, to smell (zintuigelijke ww)

Dan krijg je  geen - ly erachter.

I look amazing in my new dress!

He seems nice in interviews.

The food smells good (en dus niet 'well')

DUS...

Ron is a careful driver. 

Ron drives carefully.

Place of Adverbs of frequency

(often, sometimes, always, never, usually etc.)

- voor hoofdwerkwoord

- na vorm van to be (am/are/is/was/were)

We usually watch the news on TV.

She is always late

Place of other Adverbs  

usually after the main verb.

She sings beautifully.

Before a noun (ZN)
