Simple sentences

Compound sentences

Compound sentences

• They wanted to go home, but they got lost in the forest.
• We saw a flash of light, yet there wasn't a loud thunder.
• He wasn't very clever, nor was he handsome.
• She always takes the train, for they haven't got a car.
• You have forgotten your key, so you can't enter the house.

Complex sentences (complexe zinnen)

1 hoofdzin met 1 of meer bijzinnen 

verbonden met een ander voegwoord 

(because, although, so that, when, after, since) 

of betrekkelijk voornaamwoord (that, who, which). 

De bijzin verklaart de hoofdzin en kun je niet zonder de hoofdzin gebruiken

Complex sentences (complexe zinnen)

• We will learn English, although it takes some time.
• When you run very fast, you can win the race.
• The protesters were arrested because they wouldn't leave.
• You can go home after you have finished cleaning.
• Since you are here already, you might as well start working.
• He is someone who cares for the environment.
• Did you hear about the rain, which caused a flood in Italy?
