Globally reading a text

• What is the subject?

• When did it happen?

Intensive reading

• Only read a text intensively if the questions that come with the text need you to.  Sometimes you can already answer the questions without reading everything. Pay attention if the question points out a location of where you can find your answer.

To summarise

• Skimming > Read the title, headings and images. ELZA method
• Globally reading > What, Where, When, Why (4 W's)
• Intensive reading > Only when needed

Reading - Quoting

Quoting is...

• Citing part from a text. 
• It shows that what you are writing between the quotation marks is not your own text.
• In reading exams it can be used to show where you found your answer.

So how do I quote?

1. Write down the first two words of the sentence where you found your answer
2. Write three dots: ...
3. Write down the last two words of the sentence where you found your answer.
4. Put " " marks at the start and at the end.
5. Write down the line number 'line number' behind the quote.

Perhaps that I can text Uncle Bob to see if I can visit him, as long as Aunt Mary is not around. She always judges me! If I'm lucky, Uncle Bob will make me his famous grilled steak! But for now, I still have to work. I wish it was next week already!

1. Go through the reading texts that you will find on Peppels. Try to compelete at least texts 1, 2, &  3
2. Finished with the texts of number 1, continue reading and completing the other texts from the ''Leestoets havo 3'' 
3. Finished completely? Mark your work by using the answer key in Peppels.

1. Your name

2. Properly quote the highlighted sentence:

The clouds packed together above the city, and the children ran home to make sure they were home before the rain would fall. Mothers began gathering their laundry to prevent it from becoming wet. I grabbed my umbrella and began to head towards the station. I had to catch the train soon, so I could not wait for the weather to clear up.

3. Turn it on Peppels via a message to the teacher.
