English programme wk 22 (28-05, 29-05)

Introduction:                                   

• This LessonUp content covers a repetition of all grammar, and the instructions for the diagnostic test for Unit 5.
• Make sure you have finished this lessonup, and have handed in your answers to the test, before the end of Friday (29-05)               

Note / Let op:

The next couple of slides contain the explanation (uitleg) of all grammar that has been discussed in this unit. This is all repetition (herhaling).

If you already know the grammar, skip (overslaan) the blue slides with explanation and go to the yellow and green slides at the end of this LessonUp.

Future, shall/will:            (CB p.111-112, A10)

Future: shall / will + hele werkwoord (toekomende tijd)

• I will watch a movie tonight. / Shall we go out Saturday? 
• Gebruik: Wanneer iets in de toekomst gaat gebeuren.

LET OP:

1. Bij I en We in vragende zinnen gebruik je shall in plaats van will

2. Vaak worden de korte vormen gebruikt

• I'll go there next week. / She won't come with us tomorrow.

 

If-zinnen:                                (CB p.117, B10)

If-zinnen bestaan uit een hoofdzin en een bijzin.

• De bijzin begint met 'if' en bevat een voorwaarde (Als dit gebeurt, dan . . . / Als we dat doen, dan . . .)
• In de hoofdzin staat vaak een vorm van will.

You'll work better later on, if you take a break now. / If you finish your guitar lesson today, you'll have time to relax on Saturday. / She'll go, if you go too.

LET OP: in if-zinnen mag geen will/would/won't gebruikt worden in de bijzin. (Het deel dat met 'if' begint). 

Past Simple & Present Perfect: (CB p.111, A9)

Past Simple: verb + ed (or irregular verb form)

• I walked home yesterday. / I didn't walk home yesterday.
• He took the bus this morning. / He didn't take the bus this morning.
• Gebruik: Wanneer iets in het verleden is gebeurd en het is wel belangrijk wanneer.

Present Perfect: have or has + voltooid deelwoord (= verb + ed, or irr. form)

• I have lived in Utrecht since 2011. / They have swum in the sea.
• Gebruik: Wanneer iets is gebeurd en het is niet belangrijk wanneer. Of wanneer iets in het verleden begonnen is en het gaat nu nog steeds door. 

Possession:                             (CB p.124, D2)

If we're talking about people: 

• singular (enkelvoud)

always use 's (Jess's boyfriend / Amy's bag / My brother's bicycle /  Miss Feenstra's laptop)

• plural (meervoud)

Does the word end with -s? --> use ' (My parents' car / The boys' lockerroom)
Does the word not end with -s? --> use 's (The women's hats / The people's choice / The children's toys)

Possession:                             (CB p.124, D2)

If we're talking about objects:

• of-construction (The start of the lesson / The windows of the car / The cap of the cola bottle)

LET OP: There is an exception (uitzondering) to the of-construction that we normally only use for objects:

She's a cousin of Rachid's. / He's a friend of my father's.

Linking words:                     (CB p. 123, C12)

Linking words  (verbindingswoorden) are used to combine/connect two parts of a sentence.

• Examples of English linking words are: and (en), because (omdat), but (maar), although (hoewel), unless (tenzij), so (dus), as soon as (zodra), while (terwijl tijdens), whereas (terwijl daarentegen)

I was cleaning the house while you were sleeping. 

--> Ik was het huis aan het schoonmaken terwijl jij sliep.

She likes pop music, whereas I like metal music.

--> Zij houdt van popmuziek, terwijl ik van metalmuziek hou. 

Some <> Any:                          (CB p. 125, E1)

Can anybody come help me? / I just thought of something. / I don't think anybody knows what she's talking about. 

• Wanneer gebruik je 'some' en wanneer 'any'?

- Bij een bevestigende zin: some              I met someone yesterday.

- Bij een vragende zin: any                           Do you have any cookies for me?

- Bij een ontkennende zin: any                   They don't listen to anybody!

LET OP: Read through the 3 exceptions (uitzonderingen) to this rule in the course book on p. 125!

Diagnostic test = Diagnostische toets, een toets om te kijken of jij/jullie de grammatica, woorden, zinnen al begrijpen en kennen.

--> Open: "Unit 5 Diagnostische toets"

--> Write down your answers in a word/google docs document, or write them by hand on a piece of paper, and send the document (or a clear photo of your answers on paper) to [e-mail]

FAQ's = Frequently Asked Questions / veelgestelde vragen

• Waar kan ik een boek halen?

De bibliotheken zijn weer open! Of vraag jouw ouders/verzorgers/begeleider /broer of zus/de buurman/een vage kennis of ze een boek voor je hebben. Een boek (online) kopen mag natuurlijk ook, maar hoeft niet.

• Welk boek kan/mag/zal ik lezen?

Persoonlijk zou ik een boek kiezen uit de Young Adult sectie, maar dat hoeft niet. Er staat ook een grote lijst met boeken op SOM in de jaarbijlagen. Dit zijn boeken die leerlingen in 4 vmbo-tl gelezen hebben.

Boekverslag FAQ's

• Mag ik . . . . . (titel van boek) lezen? 

Als je niet zeker weet of je een geschikt boek hebt, stuur mij een mailtje met de titel van jouw boek via [e-mail] (een afspraak maken om te videobellen kan uiteraard ook!)

• Wanneer moet het boekverslag ingeleverd worden?
  

Je levert het boekverslag uiterlijk donderdag 25-06 in. Mochten we die dag niet op school zijn, dan lever je het via e-mail in.

• Ik hou niet van lezen, kan ik niet gewoon een film/verfilming kijken?

Nee.

Boekverslag FAQ's

• Moet het verslag/de samenvatting in het Engels worden geschreven?

Jazeker, het hele verslag schrijf jij in het Engels. 

• Wat wordt er bedoeld met pre-reading vraag 3: "hoe ziet het boek er aan de binnenkant uit"?

Denk aan dingen zoals: Is de tekst geschreven als brieven/e-mails of als een blok tekst? Zijn er korte of lange hoofdstukken (zijn er uberhaupt hoofdstukken)? Staat er een tekening/kaart/enz in de kaft of aan het begin van het boek? Is alles zwart/wit of heeft het boek kleur? Zijn er afbeeldingen? Is het lettertype overal hetzelfde?
