gewend zijn, gebruiken we to be used to + gerund / noun. 

gewend raken / gewend geraakt zijn, gebruiken we to get used to + gerund. 

vroeger, gebruik je used to + infinitive.

What is the difference between an adverb and an adjective?

Adverb vs adjective

Adjective = bijvoeglijk naamwoord

describes a noun or pronoun: The blue shirt. He is tall

Adverb = bijwoord

describes a verb (or anything else apart from a (pro)noun.

He talks loudly.
