Past simple
The Past Simple is used to indicate that something happened in the past. 
Most of the time there are time indicators in the sentence:
yesterday, last week, in 2012, two days ago.

Past simple
Regular verbs:
You turn the verb into the past simple by adding - ed to the infinitive.

*I work every day.
* He worked yesterday.

Past Simple
When the verb ends in a consonant + -y, the -y changes in -ied.

Laura (to try) to call him this morning.
Laura tried to call him this morning.

With some short verbs with a short vowel (a,e,i,o,u)
like stop and grab, the consonant is doubled.

stop - stopped
grab-grabbed

Adverbs of time and place
Adverbs of time and place are usually placed at the end of the sentence.
Place always comes before time.

*We're going to France this summer.
Adverbs of time can be placed at the beginning of the sentence if you want to stress them.

*This year we're going to stay at home.
