Japanese culture/what are we going to do?

• in small groups you do research on Japan 

Theme 2:

• Welcome on board

Route dedicated service RDS

• On flights to Japan, among others, an airline serves special local dishes, this is called RDS (route dedicated service).
  
• The passenger then has the choice between a Western or Japanese meal.
  
• On these flights, special Japanese green tea is also served from special teapots.

Assignment:

• form groups of 4/5 and make a presentation about Japan lasting about 3 minutes
• Through a presentation, creatively show your ideas of what you can do during your free time in Tokyo. 
• Think about something cultural, an original restaurant and something sporty
• In general, people in Japan do not speak English very well. Look for Japanese words together that could be useful during this short stay in Japan

• Your presentation is creative
• You show good cooperation
• Clear overview of activities you can do in Tokyo
• Five Japanese words are well explained and you give tips on how to learn them

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

• understand and recognise components of the preflight check and security check;
• have knowledge of actions in case of anomalies/irregularities;
• identify the importance of a first impression;
• identify your own role as an airline service provider;
• state what empathy is (what is your empathy?);
• describe what qualities you have as a host/hostess;
• what exactly is ‘top service’.

Chapter 1: safety & security checks

• Your most important job as a cabin crew?
• You are responsible for passenger safety!
• Unsafe situation? The crew solves it (where possible)!
• Material (equipment) is available on board for this purpose.
• This equipment will have to be checked for presence and condition before take-off.

What flight safety equipment do you expect to find on board?

Preflight checklist

• on the left, you can see the name of a particular ‘safety equipment’
  
• on the right, you can read exactly what to check.
  
• these materials are always in a fixed place on board.
  
• As a CA, you need to know where they are (by means of a layout). 

• doghouse: kind of drawer, often behind a back row of seats
  .
• coat room: for coats, but often also safety equipment

• hier kun je jassen ophangen, maar ligt ook vaak equipment

• in the front/rear luggage bin is often equipment

• hierin bevindt zich meestal alleen catering equipment

• near your crewseat is where most of the equipment is!

• this is the workplace of the (senior) purser, with many emergency buttons

What ‘suspicious’ items would you check the cabin for?

Role-playing: safety equipment, for what?

• we will do a short role-play in the mock-up
• consider the class in the room next door
• form pairs
• handle the materials carefully
• try to play the role-play as real as possible
• briefly reflect on your role-play afterwards 

What will you do?

• You may choose from 3 cases (page 26 of the reader)
• You play the role-play in pairs
• Make sure you know what equipment you need and where it is beforehand
• Switch roles and choose another case
• Reflect on your role-play: how did you like it? 

Reflection on role-playing:

2. how did you fulfil it?
3. what did you think went well?
