Gebruik: Als je praat over vaardigheden die je geleerd hebt.

Can in een vraag:

can vooraan zetten, gevolgd door het onderwerp en het tweede werkwoord.

Example: Can you speak three different languages?

Can in een ontkenning:

You have to add not  > can't/cannot.

Nothing else changes to the sentence.

He can't swim very fast.

What do you think "My grandmother is able to read" means?

to be able to

NED = in staat is iets te doen

Juiste vorm van 'to be' gebruiken.

am/are/is > tegenwoordige tijd

was/were > verleden tijd

Na 'to be able to' volgt het hele werkwoord (infinitief).

Example: He is able to play football now.

to be able to

Vragen maken: 

1. vorm van 'to be' vooraan zetten

2. gevolgd door het onderwerp en able to + hele werkwoord.

Example: Are you able to come to my party tonight?

Ontkenningen maken:

1. not toevoegen aan de vorm van 'to be'.

She was not able to come.
OF She wasn't able to come.

2. to be unable to

She was unable to come.
