Adjectives and Adverbs

1. Frank sings well. 

2. My brother drives carefully.

Bijwoorden kunnen andere woorden beschrijven. Een bijwoord zegt bijvoorbeeld hoe iets gebeurt, of hoe iets gedaan wordt. Het zegt iets over een werkwoord.

Let op!

1. My teachers are nice.

2. That car looks beautiful.

3. Haggis smells awful.

Na koppelwerkwoorden zoals: to be (zijn), to seem (lijken), to feel (zich voelen) + to look (eruitzien), to smell (ruiken), to sound (klinken), to taste (smaken) gebruik je geen bijwoord, maar een bijvoegelijk naamwoord.

Een bijwoord kan ook iets zeggen over een bijvoegelijk naamwoord. 

1. Frank is an extremely good singer.

2. My brother is an awfully careful driver.

3. It's an absolutely perfect video clip.

Een bijwoord kan ook iets zeggen over een 

ander bijwoord in een zin. 

1. Frank sings absolutely beautifully.

2. My brother drives really well.

3. That clip was filmed extremely perfectly. 

-ly

De meeste bijwoorden maak je door -ly achter het bijvoegelijk naamwoord te zetten.     

Beautiful - beautifully

Let op! Soms verandert de spelling van het bijwoord. 

Terrible - terribly

Easy - easily
