Conditionals
  • result of situation
  • clear condition 
  • four types:
     - zero conditional
     - first conditional
     - second conditional
     - third conditional

Zero conditional
  • things that are generally true (laws, rules)
  • structure: if + present simple, (then...) + present simple

Example:
If I drink too much coffee, I can't sleep at night.

First conditional
  • future situations that are possible / likely to happen
  • structure: if +  present simple, (then...) will + infinitive

Example:
If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we will go to the beach.

Second conditional
  • future situations that are impossible / not likely to happen
  • structure: if +  past simple, (then...) would  + infinitive 

Example:
If I won a lot of money, I would buy a big house. 
               
              past simple of to be --> I, he/she/it = were

Third conditional
  • imagined past (usually regrets)
  • structure: if +  past perfect, (then...) would + have + past     participle 

Example:
If I had studied more, I would have passed the exam.
