Workfare should be abolished
The government's workfare schemes involve compulsory work for people who claim unemployment benefits




CON: 
Some companies  are getting free menial (= of low social value such as washing dishes/cleaning floors) labour without 
offering wages or even new skills.


PRO
The principle is that everyone needs to work for their income should be enforced by the government

for example because they cannot find a job:
unemployment benefit


Sentence examples:
  • I'm on benefit at the moment.
  • If they could not prove they were looking for work, they could lose their benefit.
  • Employees need to pay taxes to qualify for any unemployment benefits if they lose their jobs.
