Slide 18 - Tekstslide

Now let's do some work!

Slide 19 - Tekstslide

A persuasive text usually opens with an opening statement. This is a sentence that the writer agrees with and the writer wants to convince the reader of as well.
Examples of opening statements:
1) "Smartphones should be banned from schools."
2) "School days should start no earlier than 09:30."
3) "Borders between countries should no longer exist."
Write down an opening statement that you could use to write a persuasive text (no nonsense please).

Slide 20 - Open vraag

Arguments
Choose an opening statement from the previous slide (yours or someone else's) and think of two arguments to support OR counter the opening statement.  Write them down on the next slide (in English!).

Example: Opening statement: "School days should start no earlier than 09:30."

  • Argument 1: It is a well-known fact that adolescents need more sleep than other people. Starting school early can be detrimental to their learning capacity.
  • Argument 2: Giving teens more time in the morning will allow them to eat a healthier breakfast which will help improve their focus at school.
