Slide 17 - Tekstslide
How will you be tested on your persuasive writing skills?
There will be two test moments.
Week 12. This is a formative writing test. You will write a persuasive text as if it were a test and get feedback on it, to improve your writing skills.
Week 16. This is a summative test. Again, you will write a persuasive text but now you will get a mark for your text.
Slide 18 - Tekstslide
Now let's do some work!
Slide 19 - Tekstslide
A persuasive text usually opens with an opening statement. This is a sentence that the writer agrees with and the writer wants to convince the reader of as well.
Example opening statements: "Smartphones should be banned from schools", "School days should start no earlier than 09:30" or "borders between countries should no longer exist"
Write down an opening statement that you could use to write a persuasive text with.
Slide 20 - Open vraag
Arguments
Choose an opening statement that you see on the board (yours or someone else's) and think of three arguments to support OR counter the opening statement.
Write them down in your English Word document.
Example:
Opening statement: More taxes should raised on meat and dairy to reduce their consumption
Argument 1: Meat and dairy are a major cause of carbon emissions through deforestation and production of methane, increasing global warming
Argument 2: Production of meat and dairy causes great harm to animals.
Argument 3: Consuming a lot of meat and dairy is bad for public health.
