Present simple / present continuous

Messi is playing football.
(right now)

Messi plays football.
(but NOT at the moment)

The Present Continuous 

Gebruik:
Als iets NU gebeurt. 

Vorm:
vorm van to be  (am/is/are) + werkwoord + ing

Voorbeeld:
I am walking right now. 

The Present Simple

Gebruik:
Als iets vaak, regelmatig, soms gebeurt.
Als iets een feit is. 

Vorm:
Stam of stam +s (shit-rule: he,she,it & ww+s)
Voorbeeld:
He walks to school every day. 

Signaalwoorden

Hoe weet je welke tijd je moet gebruiken?
Signaalwoorden:
Vaak staan er in de zin bepaalde woorden waaraan je kan zien welke tijd je moet gebruiken, dit noemen we signaalwoorden.

Present simple form

Welke spellingsregels moet je op letten?

Rule 1: When the verb ends in -ch, -ss, -sh, -x or -zz:  we add -es.

Examples: watch - watches, miss - misses, wash - washes, mix -mixes, buzz - buzzes.

Rule 2

Rule 2: When the verb (werkwoord) ends in a consonant (medeklinker) + -y we change y to i and add -es.

Examples: study - studies, hurry - hurries, reply - replies

But!!: when the verb (werkwoord) ends in a vowel (klinker) + -y we just add -s.

Examples: pay - pays, enjoy - enjoys, 

Uitzonderingen

Have, go, do and be zijn onregelmatig.

I have got a pet. -> She has got a pet.

They go to school every week. -> He goes to school every week.

You do the dishes every Tuesday. -> He does the dishes every Tuesday. 

We are going to study for the test. -> He is going to study for the test. -> I am going to study for the test.
