When you read a text, you read a lot of information. All this information has something to do with each other: it is related. A writer uses certain words in the text to show you what is related. We call these words signal words. These signal words show connections in the text.
For example, when you want to sum up reasons why exercising is good for you, you can use the signal words: first, second, third, finally.
