1. Past simple (revision)

Gebruik: verleden tijd

= actie in het verleden, completely over and done!

Signaalwoorden: last, yesterday, in (2005), ago

1.  Regelmatige ww (d.w.z. deze ww volgen een regel)

Regel:

ww+ ed bv. talk -> talked ; learn -> learned

Uitzonderingen:

       - eindigt je ww op -y, dan wordt deze i +ed

                            bv. marry -> married

       - bij korte ww + ww die eindigen op -l verdubbelt de laatste

       medeklinker

                            bv. travel -> travelled ; chat -> chatted

       - bij ww die al eindigen op -e voeg je enkel -d toe

                            bv. hate -> hated

1. Regelmatige ww (d.w.z. deze ww volgen een regel)

                            bv. talk -> talked ; learn -> learned

       - eindigt je ww op medeklinker+y, dan wordt deze i +ed

                            bv. marry -> married  (let op: played)

       - bij korte ww + ww die eindigen op -l verdubbelt de laatste

       medeklinker

                            bv. travel -> travelled ; chat -> chatted

       - bij ww die al eindigen op -e voeg je enkel -d toe

                            bv. hate -> hated

2. Onregelmatige ww  (d.w.z. deze ww volgen geen regel)

Een heel aantal ww volgt geen regel en moet je vanbuiten leren. 

(Dit is ook zo in het Nederlands: v.t. zwemmen -> zwom)

2. Past simple negative and questions in the past simple

a. past simple negative

- van het ww 'to be': wasn't (ow = I, he/she/it of 1p/d/ding) of weren't  (ow = you, we, they of meer dan 1 p/d/d)

Example: The dogs weren't happy.

- van alle andere ww:

DIDN'T/DID NOT + INFINITIVE

 Example:  to go -> We didn't go to the party.

 

d.w.z. volledige ww, geen -ed toevoegen!

b. past simple questions

- questions met het ww 'to be':

Were/was + ow + rest?

Example: Were they at school yesterday?

- alle andere werkwoorden:

Did + ow + INFINITIVE + rest?

Example: Did they go to the theatre last night?

(-> opnieuw: volledige ww zonder -ed toe te voegen!)
