Goals

I know when to use the Present Continuous

 I can use the Present Continuous correctly

Present Continuous

You use the present continuous in 3 situations:

• to say that something is happening right now.
  
• for activities that last longer
  
• to express annoyance or irritation

I am buying clothes at H&M (--> right now, you're in the shop) vs. I always/never buy clothes at H&M (--> it's a habit; Pr. Simple)

Fill in the correct form of Present Continuous:
I ____ (to do) a quiz right now

1. am to do
2. am doing
3. do
4. am going to do

Fill in the correct form of Present Continuous:
She ____ (to set) the table

1. is seting
2. sets
3. is setting
4. is to set

Present Continuous

To form the Present Continuous:      verb  to be   +   main verb [+ ing]

  

I                            am  doing      /          am   swimming 

you                     are doing      /           are   swimming 

he, she, it         is    doing      /           is      swimming 

we                      are doing      /           are   swimming 

they                   are doing     /           are   swimming 

Sometimes the spelling of a main verb changes: swim --> swimMing

Ex. 53 (the forgotten homework)

Have a look at the house in the picture on p. 43.

There are a lot of activities going on in this house.

Write down 8 sentences about what is going on in the picture. Use the Present Continuous in each sentence!

Examples: Mum is doing the dishes.

My sister is walking the dog right now.

Teams vs. in class

Online sub group: in breakout rooms, come up with 8 sentences

Offline sub group: in duos, come up with 8 sentences (keep the social distance in mind!)

If you have already done this exercise OR if you are finished quickly: continue with ex. 53d and ex. 54 (on p. 44 & 45)

Mini presentation:

Mystery Animal / Fantasy animal / Rare Animal

Presentation

You are going to do a mini-presentation. 

Choose an animal and tell us about it. You have 3 options:

1. You can choose to keep it a mystery and tell us about your animal but not tell which animal it is! We’ll have to guess.
   
2. You can also choose a very rare animal.
   
3. You can make up an fantasy animal yourself and use your imagination.

• Finish exercises 53 and 54
• Study GRAMMAR 11-12-13 of Theme 4 (do you understand everything?)
