You use the present continuous in 3 situations:

1. to say that something is happening right now. 
2. for activities that last longer
3. to express annoyance or irritation

Present Continuous - How?

 verb to be + [main verb+ing]

• I am reading - you are reading  - he/she is reading
• I am doing - you are doing - it is doing - we are doing
  
  
• Sometimes the spelling of a main verb changes:
• I am swimming - you are swimming - it is swimming
