The Passive

• When to use? When the focus is on what happened, not on who did it.
  
• Present simple passive = am/is/are + voltooid deelwoord
• Past simple passive = was/were + voltooid deelwoord
  
• Active: They take the photos.
  
• Passive: The photos are taken (by them).
  
• Active: I did my homework.  My homework ....
  

Passive = lijdende vorm

•  Van actieve zin naar passieve zin: Het lijdend voorwerp van de actieve zin wordt het onderwerp van de passieve zin.
  
• Lijdend voorwerp: wie of wat + gezegde + onderwerp
• A Texan company makes these NASA t-shirts
  
• What does this Texan company make?
  
• Lijdend voorwerp is: these NASA t-shirts
  
• Passive: These NASA t-shirts are made (by....)
