Headline and Clickbait
A good headline attracts the attention of the reader. Headlines can have different functions:

summarising a story/article:
-making the readers curious so they will keep on reading
-setting the tone for what follows (serious, factual, humorous etc.)

Some headlines can be clickbait. Clickbait is a sensationalised or misleading headline that encourages readers to click a link to an article or video. Such a headline does not present facts objectively, but appeals to the readers’ emotions or curiosity.

  • Pessimistic:  This party is going to be a disaster.
  • Hopeful:  This party could change everything for me.
  • Optimistic:  We’re going to have a great time, and absolutely nothing will go wrong.
  • Arrogant: I hope they realize how lucky they are to have me on their guest list.
