Eigen leerdoel: Ask students about their Sinterklaas weekend. Be inclusive about those who do not celebrate and ask what they celebrate instead/if they celebrate anything at all
Eigen leerdoel 2: Use this information about gifts/surprises/other to introduce them to the world of 'materials' e.g. what was the present that you got? What material is that present made of?

Goals
Plan: Orals, test expectations, UK school system.

At the end of the lesson I:
- know what to expect on my test
- know what the UK school system looks like

Today we will be looking at 

Ask a student to read out the goals on the board.

But first, we have 3 nervous people who have to do their oral, so we will start with that.

Homework:
Do: Reading 3, Vocabulary 1-3 and 'Writing' write the email on p. 38/39

Expectations: only the person in front of the class speaks, the rest is quiet. Presentation will be timed. The others write down 1 tip and 1 top for the student in question. No laughing at the person presenting. You wouldn't want to be laughed at either.

On your test (next Monday)
1. A reading text with questions
2. Vocabulary from Prepare (Unit 5/6) - complete the words (1st letter(s) given) and give the word yourself (no first letter)
3. Gram pick the correct word and use the right form (adverbs)
4. Gram put ' in the correct place + put determiners/pronouns
5. Vocab in Use exercises (Unit 10, 11, 12)
6. Irregular verbs 1-40 (be-lose) p. 167

Let students know what will be on their test for next week

Culture 1. Discuss in pairs (so with the person next to you). Write down your answers.

What countries does the UK consist of?
Secondary School - what do you already know about schools in the UK? Raise your hand.

Read out the questions and tell them to work together and write down their answers. Then ask a few students to give you some answers.

Students raise their hand and do not yell through the classroom, even though they might be excited because they know something. I want to be able to give others a turn as well. And to be able to hear what people are saying, which I cannot do if they are all talking through each other.

Read the text together
Read along on p. 40. Teacher reads first part, then 3 people read the 3 remaining paragraphs.

Do ex. 3: complete the table about the type of schools and the type of tests based on the text you just read.

Research for tomorrow
In groups of 4 (which I make), divide tasks and research the following for tomorrow's lesson:
1. What schools does the uk have (basisschool-universiteit) + ages + which are legally required to follow.
2. What do students wear + eat (lunch) + do after school
3. What does a school day look like + subjects
4. Compare the information from your group to Dutch schools

Taakverdeling wil ik hebben voor het einde van de les. Groepjes maak ik zelf.
Neem de informatie mee op papier. Je mag het opzoeken in het Nederlands, maar de informatie moet morgen in het Engels opgeschreven. Dus in het Engels is makkelijker.
Groepslid 4 kan weinig research doen als huiswerk, maar leest morgen al de research van iedereen en schrijft dan op hoe dat zich verhoudt tot Nederland.

Veel van de info: Education in England Wiki pagina, maar die heeft wel moeilijke woorden.

Sit in your groups and decide who will do what. If you cannot figure it out yourself, I will pick who does what. Until 13:55 to start on this (they can use their phones)

Help: the pictures/material words, teacher, each other.
Time: 10 min
Done: Look at your grammar homework and in pairs look at the answers you gave. Are they the same? If not, who is right?

Do: Culture 3 on p. 40 + your own research topic
 
Tomorrow: Make a poster about the UK school system using your research. (So if you don't do it, your group will be sad)

Recap what their homework is and move on to the goals. They have a reading test in week 3 and whereas some did really well on their reading part of the test, others could use a little extra practice, so that's what we'll do tomorrow instead of Vocabulary in Use
