Write an e-mail informing your boss that you need 3 days off because of reasons (fill in the reasons yourself).

Letter is more formal because it is less used, more archaic now a days. (The intention is more formal)
Content of an email and letter can be exactly the same (DUO, zorgerverzekering)
purpose: email (quick question, assignment), letter (informative, formal request)

Group assignment
In groups, discuss your columns. Compare the columns to figure out the conventions of a column.

What makes this column a column? (analyze the text) Compare to the info on the handout
Follow up assignment: discuss with your group which column you will work with as a group
Writing assignment
Write a response to your column in approximately 500 words. Use the conventions of a column and write in the same tone as the column you are responding to.
Hand your writing in to me.
