Summative C  - Speaking

What is a Summative C (oral)? 

• It is an oral assessment in which you will talk and will have a conversation one to one with your teacher about a topic related to the current unit.
• You will get an image and a legend (phrase) as a prompt (inspiration) and will talk about it for 2-3 minutes

FAQ´s

• What do I do if I can not speak for 2-3minutes? 

Part 1 - your teacher will give you time to talk about the prompt (image and legend) and only after you have said all you can, she will ask you more questions to help you reach 2-3 minutes. 

Part 2 -  the teacher will ask you for your personal information: name, age, nationality, etc. That way you will speak for a longer time.

En parejas, uno es el alumno y el otro el profesor. Elegid una imagen y llevad a cabo la práctica oral / In couples we are going to practice the speaking exam. 

• Instructions: Look at the images, read the text and comment the image with your classmate.
• Total amount of time 5 minutes - each student will talk 2/3 minutes. 
• Practice with all the images.
• At the end of each conversation give feedback to your classmate

FAQ´s 

• Do I have to describe the image?

You may, but you do not have to. The legend (phrase) is more important, if the legend says "Mi profesor de inglés es aburrido", you HAVE TO say something about this prompt. Like: "Mi profesor de inglés NO es aburrido, es muy divertido. En clase de inglés hablamos..."

1. Practice  the vocabulary of the topics learnt in class. Familiarise yourself with your  personal introduction and the structures for describing the picture (in the video shown in class)
2. Keep Responses Simple and Clear: It's okay to use simple sentences at the beginner level. Focus on being clear rather than using complex grammar or advanced vocabulary. For example, instead of saying, "El paisaje es espectacular y diverso," you can say, "Es bonito."
3. Use Filler Phrases: To give yourself time to think, use simple filler phrases like "Pues..." (Well...) or "Déjame pensar..." (Let me think...). This shows confidence and gives you a moment to organise your thoughts.
4. Focus on Pronunciation and Intonation: Even if your vocabulary is limited, speaking clearly and with proper pronunciation can make a big difference. Practice common phrases out loud, and pay attention to accents and the rhythm of spoken Spanish.

5. Prepare and memorise key phrases: Having a few go-to phrases prepared for common situations (e.g., "No entiendo la pregunta" for “I don’t understand the question”) can help you navigate the exam smoothly and show that you are trying to communicate.

6. Listen carefully to the question: Make sure you fully understand the question before responding. If you’re unsure, ask for clarification with phrases like "¿Puede repetir, por favor?" or "¿Qué significa...?" This shows engagement and effort to understand.

7. Stay calm and confident: Nerves are normal, but try to stay composed. Slow down your speech if you feel anxious, and remember that I am there to support you, not to trick you. Confidence, even with mistakes, will leave a positive impression.
