TEMPERATURE FACTORS
Why is it warm or cold somewhere?
Slide 11 - Tekstslide
What factors contribute to the temperature in a country?
Slide 12 - Woordweb
TEMPERATURE
FACTORS
You can
name
the 5
temperature
factors
(G37).
For each
temperature
factor
you can
explain
how it influences
temperature
in a certain place (G38, G42, G43, G44, G45, G46).
Slide 13 - Tekstslide
Temperature factors
Latitude: the further from the equator, the colder.
Altitude: the higher, the colder.
Location in relation to the sea: the further from the sea, the warmer in summer and the colder in winter.
Supply of cold or heat from elsewhere by wind or sea currents.
Location of mountains: sheltered or not.
Slide 14 - Tekstslide
1. Latitude
The closer you are to the equator, the warmer it is.
Slide 15 - Tekstslide
2. Altitude
The higher, the colder.
Slide 16 - Tekstslide
3. Land or sea
Land heats up and cools down
quicker
than water.
Land and water influence the temperature of the air above it.
Slide 17 - Tekstslide
3.Onshore/
offshore wind
This factor only applies to places
close
to the sea.
Onshore
wind moderates temperature (cool summers, mild winters), while
offshore
winds cause bigger temperature differences.
Slide 18 - Tekstslide
4. Ocean currents
Warm current -> warmer air
Cold current -> colder air
Slide 19 - Tekstslide
5. Location of
mountain
ranges
Mountain ranges can block prevailing winds, so they can be a dividing line between 2 climates.

What do you think is causing the drought in the atacama desert?
Slide 22 - Open vraag
Arid conditions in Chile
Combination of three factors:
High-pressure area
Humboldt currents (ocean current)
the Andes Mountains
Slide 23 - Tekstslide
Droogte in Chili
(Atacama woestijn)
Droogte komt door:
Subtropisch hogedrukgebied
Humboldtstroom (zeestroom)
Het andesgebergte
Slide 24 - Tekstslide
High-pressure area
1. high-pressure area
Slide 25 - Tekstslide
2. How is the arid/draught conditions near the atacama desert caused by the cold Humboldt seacurrent?

El Niño (het jongetje)
Opwarming zeewater door omgedraaide lucht- en zeestromen
Warmer zeewater:
Minder vissen
meer verdamping > meer neerslag, overstromingen etc>
Slide 30 - Tekstslide
Het Kerstkind
El Niño
- Verandering in lucht- en zeestromen (rond kerstmis). - Gevolgen voor Chili: warmer zeewater, meer neerslag, overstromingen, minder visvangst.

Rain only occurs when air becomes colder and descending air becomes warmer
B
Rain only falls when there is moisture in the air and valley air is dry
C
Rain only falls when there is a lot of wind and when the air is falling it does not blow
D
Rain only falls when there are clouds and descending air is too dry for tha
