What narrative voice is used to tell the story?

This is what we call a third person Omniscient narrator. 

As the name implies, an omniscient narrator is all-seeing and all-knowing. While the narration outside of any one character, the narrator may occasionally access the consciousness of a few or many different characters.

What is the effect of using this type of narrative voice?

This narrative voice allows the author to provide the audience with more knowledge than the characters in the story. This can be very helpful at times and can add to our understanding of things as well as create extra suspense.

What do we learn about Sally as the first chapter unfolds?

What elements reveal to us that she is part of a different era than our own?
