What: Present choosen picturebook in your group (breakout room)
How:  
  • Ask your colleagues questions about the cover of the book. 
  • Tell them what the picturebook is about
  • Mention 3 activities you can do with the book

Time: 5 minutes per picturebook - 20 minutes in total

Outcome: You know the content of different picturebooks and you know what questions/activities you can use for that specific book.

  • TPR = Total Physical Response
  • Founder = James Asher (psychologist)
  • Learning another language through actions
  • Learning like their mother tongue
  • 3 principles

Advantages TPR
  • Fun and Easy: Students enjoy activity!
  • Simple TPR activities do not require a great deal of preparation on the part of the teacher.
  • TPR is inclusive and works well in a class with mixed ability levels.
  • Teacher can assess knowledge of the pupils.
  • Good for visual, kinesthetic and auditory learners who need to be active in class.
  • Good tool for building vocabulary.

Let's practise TPR
What: Choose an item (song, game, role play, story/book, classroom language) and use TPR to present this item. Choose words you would like to teach to the children
How: Prepare a short plan and present it to your collegue. Than act out the TPR activity
Time: 10 minutes in breakout rooms and 5 minutes to present results in the main classroom
Outcome: Using TPR in teaching English
