Reading Strategies

- Skimming: understand the gist of the text 

                            = general information without the details

- Scanning: understand the detail of the text

Skimming and scanning speed up your reading! 

You do not have to read the complete text.

Reading Strategies

What: Exercise 2: Quickly skim the text on p.9 then match the                                           summaries to the paragraphs. Support your                                            choice with details from each paragraph.

How: Individually

Reading- Multiple Choice Tips

- Keep the overall context and the writer's intention in mind.

- Read the question before you read the text.

- Read the answer options carefully , then read the relevant section of the text.

- All of the options will seem possible answers to the question, but only one will match the information in the text and the writer's view. Check that the answer you choose does both.

                                     For questions 1-6 choose the answer which
