Speaking Lesson

Part 1: introduce yourself
Tell your teacher in two minutes about yourself. You have to include your family, hobbies and plans for the future.

Make sure you can talk freely and fluently (notes are not allowed!) for approximately 1,5 minutes. The last 30 seconds your teacher will ask you questions about what you have told.
Preparation: Write the entire story down and make sure somebody checks it. Retell it a few times and make sure you know it by heart. Also practice it with a stopwatch. You have to be able to talk for 1,5 minutes without pause.

Part 2: what do you see?
You should be able to tell a person what you are seeing and what you think might be happening. A picture will be shown to you and you will have 30 seconds to think about things to say. Again, you are expected to talk fluently – this time for about 1 minute.

What you say has to be linked to the picture, but you are free to talk about your own experiences. If you see a nice tropical island, for example, you can also talk about your (favorite) holiday.

Part 2: what do you see?
Do:
  1. Look at your picture carefully and take a few moments to think before you start talking (30 seconds)
  2. Talk for all the time you are given. You have one minute to do the task, so use every second.
  3. Practise useful language so you can explain which part of the picture you are talking about.

Part 3: Argumentation
Your teacher will give you a statement and you will have to argue whether you agree or disagree with it. You are expected to give more than one argument, but you are free to give for and against arguments, as long as you come to a conclusion.
Your teacher will give a counterargument as well, and you have to be able to react to what she/he is saying.
Preparation: Find statements online and talk to people about what you think and as them what they think as well.
