Explanation: 

if-zinnen: Voorwaardelijke zinnen. 

If I win the lottery, I will buy myself a new car. 

If I won the lottery, I will buy myself a new car. 

Translate: If I win the lottery, I will buy myself a new car.

If-zinnen (als..... dan zal ik ....)

if I win the lottery, I will buy myself a new car. 

*Wanneer gebruik je deze vorm? -> if + werkwoord in de tegenwoordige tijd; -> will + hele werkwoord. 

*Je gebruikt deze vorm om aan te geven dat als aan een voorwaarde wordt voldaan, iets in de toekomst zal gebeuren.  

Voorwaarde -> Gevolg 

        voorwaarde                        gevolg (wat daarna gebeurt) 

• If she buys us popcorn, we will reserve a seat for her. 
•  we will wait for you, if you buy the tickets. 
• if he wins the championships next year, I will be surprised. 

*If + het werkwoord in de tegenwoordige tijd. Let op de komma!!! 

* in de bijzin waarin het gevolg (wat er dan gebeurt) staat, gebruik je will + het hele werkwoord

We will throw a party, if ____________

if you don't feed your dog, ________

1. it will surely starve
2. it surely starves

Onwaarschijnlijk gevolg 

• Stel je hebt een loterij, waaraan je niet meedoet. Je ziet dat iemand de loterij wint op TV en je ziet dat de winnaar een miljoen euro's heeft gewonnen. Die persoon geeft de miljoen euro uit aan bijvoorbeeld de aanschaf van een nieuwe auto. 
• jij zegt het volgende: "If I won the lottery, I would buy myself a new house."  

Translate: If I won the lottery, I would buy myself a new house.

Het werkt hetzelfde.

if I won the lottery, I would buy myself a new house. 

If you helped me with maths, I wouldn't score insufficients. 

I would be upset, if our house burned down. 

in de if-zin: staat het werkwoord in de verleden tijd. en in het andere deel van de zin staat het werkwoord met 'would' + het hele werkwoord.
