WAR!

• Edward was the King of England, but just a "lord" in France.
• He did not want to give service to Philip III.
• Philip tried to take the land of Edward in France.
• Edward needed that land because of the trading routes.
  

Battles between France and England for a period of 116 years.

The first battle was in 1337, but the first major battle was in 1346.

Joan of Arc 1412

The English were winning most of the battles, until...

• A sixteen year old girl claimed she had a massage form God himself.
• The English will be send back to England God said.
• She convinced the French King to give her an army!

Joan of Arc

• She reclaimed the French city of Orleans.
• French troops were convinced she was send by God and became confident.
• The French continued to take back their land.
• Joan was captured by the English.
• She as burned at the stake by the English for being a witch at the age of nineteen.

Effect of the war

• People learned to be proud at their countries. The French were proud of France and teh English were proud of England. You call this pride Nationalism.
• France became a state that was ruled from one central place, it's capital Paris.
