Gerund

• Gerund = verb + -ing
• Used as a noun (zelfstandig naamwoord)
• "Singing is fun"

• "Singing is fun."
• "Waking up at 6am is not fun."

After verbs like:

• love, stop, start, keep on
• "I love singing in the shower."
• "We stopped caring after a while."
• "They started screaming when they saw the grammar."
• "We have to keep on moving to get there in time."

• When something is absolutely necessary;

• "You must be tired."

• Mandatory (verplicht van buitenaf)
• "You have to be on time."
• "We have to get a good grade to graduate."
• Negative: don't/doesn't 
• "You don't have to go, if you don't want to."

• Negative: shouldn't + verb
• "He shouldn't run in the halls."

• Formal version of "should"
• Stronger meaning
• "You ought to do your homework."
