When you explore a text you look at:

Reading Globally

When you read globally, it is to find out the most important information.

Answering the Wh- questions:

who/what is the text about?

where? when? why? how?

Intensive reading

Read the text carefully in order to understand all the information and / or to get the main idea

What does intensive reading look like? What do you have to do?

Scanning

When you are looking for specific information

e.g. name/ date/ time/price

Answering MC questions

1. Read the question without looking at the possible answers

2. Then read the part of the text it refers to

3. Formulate your own answer to the question

4. Scan the answers choices for something resembling/similar to your answer

Tackling Gaps in texts

• Don't read the possible answers yet
• Read the text before and after the gap
• Determine the type of word you need to fill in
• Determine the function of the word/phrase you need to fill in
• Determine whether there is a connection between the text before and after the gap
• Think of a word that is fitting, and see whether it is one of the possible answers to fill the gap
