Past Simple: What do you remember?

Read the following past simple sentences:

• Yesterday, I played the piano with the orchestra.

Een regelmatige past simple (+) eindigt altijd op -ed

Onregelmatige vormen moet je uit je hoofd leren

Je gebruikt de past simple voor dingen die altijd waar zijn. 

Je ontkent een past simple door 'didn't + het hele werkwoord' te gebruiken 

Je maakt vragen in de past simple door 'did' vooraan de zin te zetten.

In de past simple staat altijd een tijdsbepaling

Regel: Geen vorm van to be? --> did + hele werkwoord.

               Wel vorm van to be? --> Herhaal dat werkwoord. 

What about the Past Simple in questions?

They found a book.  

They did not find a book. 

She cleaned her room.

She didn't clean her room.

He was kind.

He wasn't kind.

Regel: Geen vorm van to be? --> did not/ didn't + hele werkwoord.

               Wel vorm van to be? --> vorm van to be + not/ n't

Dus zo:

Hoe ziet de Past Continuous eruit?

Jonah was walking with his brother. 

The dogs were sleeping on the couch. 

was/ were + hele werkwoord + ing

Put the following sentence into the past continuous:
Jared ... (work).

1. was working
2. worked
3. were working
4. was worked

Put the following sentence into the past continuous:
Lola and Lily ... (help) their dad.

1. was helping
2. helped

Hoe ziet de Past Continuous eruit in een vraagzin?

Jonah was walking with his brother. 

> Was Jonah walking with his brother?

The dogs were sleeping on the couch. 

> Were the dogs sleeping on the couch?

Regel: Bij een vraagzin in de past continuous zetten we de vorm van 'to be' (was/ were) vooraan de zin. 

The Past Continuous: Ontkenningen 

Hoe ziet de Past Continuous eruit in een ontkenning?

Jonah was walking with his brother. 

> Jonah was not walking with his brother. 

The dogs were sleeping on the couch. 

> The dogs weren't sleeping on the couch. 

Regel: Bij een ontkennende zin in de past continuous zetten we not/ n't achter de vorm van 'to be' (was/ were).

Next exercises

Dus zo:
