large quantities.

Take a good look at the following examples

=> what do you notice?

- We have a lot of money.

- We don't have much money.

- Do we have much money?

- They have a lot of friends.

- They don't have many friends.

- Do they have many friends?

There are 2 kinds of nouns.

Which ones?

COUNTABLE

• can be counted, can be combined with numbers
• can be singular and plural

UNCOUNTABLE

• can't be counted

• can only be singular form

- We have a lot of money.  

- We don't have much money.

- Do we have much money?

- They have a lot of friends.

- They don't have many friends.

- Do they have many friends?

friends = countable (telbaar) + plural 

a lot of

• a lot of means 'veel' 
• you use a lot of in positive sentences
• much and many are used in questions and negative sentences

• The school has a lot of pupils. (+)
• Our village has not got much snow. (-)
• Does the cat have many kittens?  (?)

'Much', 'many' & 'a lot of' all mean 'veel'.
