Tag Questions

Doel

Aan het eind van de les weet ik hoe tag questions werken.

Wat is het?

Een tag question heeft dezelfde functie als het Nederlandse 'toch'?

Je vraagt met een tag question dus om bevestiging.

Hoe doe je dit?

Als de zin positief is, dan is de tag question negatief:

It is warm outside, isn't it?

Als de zin negatief is, dan is de tag question positief:

It isn't that hard, is it?

Hoe doe je dit?

Bij werkwoorden van to be, have in de present perfect of modals (can, will, shall) herhaal je het werkwoord in de tag question:

I can borrow your phone, can't I?

Bij alle andere werkwoorden gebruik je een vorm van to do:

She volunteers at a hospital, doesn't she?

Goed opletten!

Het werkwoord van de tag question staat altijd in dezelfde tijd als die van de originele zin:

He collects money for charity, doesn't he?

He was late yesterday, wasn't he?
